Following the implementation of the new Animal Welfare Regulations in October 2018, this webpage lists animal businesses/individuals which have been inspected by Stafford Borough and that meet the required standards to be granted a licence.
Please see the Animal Welfare Regulations page for links to the guidance on the standards and conditions we use to grant a licence.
The licensing of Dangerous Wild Animals and Zoos are licensed under their own legislation and do not fall under the new regulations.
The 2018 Regulations introduced a rating system for businesses that carry out animal activities; a rating is between 1 and 5 stars. These ratings are based on the specific standards of the premises and the knowledge, training and experience of the licence holder.
These ratings will also determine how often the business is inspected:
- ‘1’ and ‘2’ star businesses will be inspected annually
- ‘3’ and ‘4’ star business will be inspected every 2 years.
- Businesses that have achieved a ‘5’ star rating will be inspected every 3 years.
Where an establishment undertakes two or more activities as part of its business, (for example dog breeding and dog boarding) each activity is graded as per the guidance and the specific requirements attached to that activity, however the overall rating will be based on the lower of the two scores.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) encourages local authorities to maintain a list of licensed businesses and their star ratings on their websites.
The businesses listed below have been advised that their details would be published; where licence holders have objected, their details have not been included.
We regularly review this page to ensure it complies with GDPR, Defra and ICO requirements; we will also add and remove entries as licences are issued, renewed, or expired/revoked.
All licensed animal premises can be found on our licensing register.
