Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act (FOI) gives you the right to obtain information held by public authorities unless there are good reasons to keep it confidential.  To make a request please email or fill in our Request Form.

Any person who makes a request must be informed whether the public authority holds that information and, subject to exemptions, must be supplied with that information.  The council must respond to a request within 20 working days.

A request can also be refused if the time it takes an officer to locate, extract and retrieve the information exceeds 18 hours, any refusal though can be appealed initially through the Council’s corporate complaints process.  It can also be considered by the Information Commissioner.

Individuals already have the right of access to information about themselves under Data Protection Legislation.

Publication Scheme

In accordance with the FOI Act 2000, we have adopted a Publication Scheme that is approved by the Information Commissioner and is based on the Information Commissioner's Model Scheme.

We will try to ensure that the majority of information referred to in the Publication Scheme is accessible via the website.  Where information is not available, online details of how such information can be accessed will be provided. Please see our Schedule of Fees and Charges for further information.
