Law and Administration deliver both statutory and non-statutory functions to the Council. They are a cross-cutting service area that contribute to all Corporate Priorities.

Democratic Services are responsible for the provision of advice and support to members and officers of the Council on the democratic decision making processes, and produce agendas and minutes for all meetings of the Council and its Committees. They are also responsible for administering the Mayoralty.

Electoral Services
Electoral Services are a statutory function and are responsible for electoral registration and the administration of all elections and referenda within its boundaries including Parish, Borough and County Council elections and Parliamentary General Elections.

Legal Services
The Legal section has responsibility for the provision of legal advice and services to the Council its members and officers across the whole range of the Council's functions overseeing information management including Data Protection; Freedom of Information, Human Rights and the Regulation of Investigatory powers. The Legal Services Manager also acts as the Council's Data Protection/Freedom of Information Officer.
